About Healers and Healing

  1. Introduction
  2. What is Energy Healing?
  3. Only God is the True Physician...
  4. Healing in the Bible...

Introduction

  • Energy Healing (also known as Faith Healing, Channeling, Supernatural Healing, Divine healing, Miracle healing, among others) is the concept that Healers (called Channels in Spiritualism) can bring about healing through the transference of The Creator's healing energy to another individual via the healer's Connection to Spirit. The healer asks the divine presence or power to correct disease and/or disability in an individual, with the full knowledge that if it is the will of God healing will take place to some degree based on God's plan for that individual. Belief in divine intervention in illness or healing is related to one's Spiritual belief in general. In common usage, "Energy Healing" refers the practices of communal prayer and/or gestures (such as laying on of hands), and/or manipulations of energy without the need of actual contact with the individual.

What is Spiritual Healing?

  • Healing allows that prayer, divine intervention, or the ministrations of an individual healer can cure illness. These claims have been made throughout history. Miraculous recoveries have been attributed to myriad techniques commonly lumped together as "Energy Healing." It can involve prayer, a visit to a Spiritual shrine, sitting or laying down in the presence of a Healer, or simply possessing a strong belief in a supreme being that will send you healing energy. Energy Healing has had wide-ranging successes. There have been claims that Energy Healing can cure blindness, deafness, cancer, AIDS, developmental disorders, anemia, arthritis, corns, defective speech, multiple sclerosis, skin rashes, total body paralysis, and various injuries. However Mainstream Science & Medicine are are just now beginning to realize the "Psychological" benefits of ones Connection to spirit or God. How God assists in the cure of physical ailments. Christian physician Reginald B. Cherry, MD, views Energy Healing as the existence of a pathway of healing in which God uses both the natural and the supernatural to heal. The increased interest in alternative medicine at the end of the twentieth century has spawned a parallel interest among sociologists in the relationship of religion to health. Spiritualists however are not the only Practitioners of Energy Healing, Healing of this type is also used by other religions and beliefs, including Wicca and other forms of paganism. The term "Faith Healing" is best known in connection with Christianity. Some people claim that the Bible, especially the New Testament, teaches belief in, and practice of, Healing connected with Devout Faith. Advocates say that legitimate Healings do occur today just as they did in the early Christian church Christian Spiritualism has the belief that God heals people through the power of the Holy Spirit, often involving the "laying on of hands". It is also called . In the Old Testament, Jehovah-Rapha, translated "I am the Lord your Physician" or "I am the Lord who heals you", is one of the seven redemptive names for God. Healing in the Bible is often associated with the ministry of specific individuals including Elijah, Jesus and Paul. Matthew 8:17 says, "This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.'" He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. [Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)] "Faith" in this context is based on biblical uses of the term. Faith has been called "the very nature of God." Pentecostal author Smith Wigglesworth has defined faith as "the personal inward flow of divine favor which moves in every fiber of our being until our whole nature is so quickened that we live by faith…." A classic definition of faith appears in the New Testament: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…." [Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)]

Only God is the True Physician...

  • The truth is that God is the one who heals. Faith is Knowing and trusting the God who heals. Faith is not holding on for your healing but holding on to the God who can do the impossible. Charisma (magazine) writer Larry Keefauver considers it important to distinguish between the Faith aspect in seeking a cure and the divine source of the healing. Exodus 15:26 points to God as the source: "I am the Lord that heals you." Some Christian writers believe it extremely rare that God provides a supernatural intervention that actually reverses natural laws governing the human body. Keefauver cautions against allowing enthusiasm for Energy Healing to stir up false hopes "so that a sufferer stakes all his or her faith on belief in miraculous healing at this level. We cannot build a water-tight theology promising physical healing, surely, for the most 'miracle-ridden' Christian will die in the end, yielding to the natural processes of senescence." Spiritualists however follow that healing the body is just part of the whole, there is also healing of the mind and removing pain. Just because the recipient didn't "Throw off his Crutches and walk" does not mean healing hasn't taken place. God wants us to be healthy, yes, but God's spirit is also bound by the fact that he gave us free will, we have to "want to" be healed. It never ceases to amaze me how some people actually love their pain, they walk up weekly to be healed, all for the Sympathy the expect to receive. Those who actively lay hands on others and pray with them to be healed are usually aware that healing may not always follow immediately. Proponents of Energy Healing say it may come later, but that it may not come at all. Upholding the sovereignty of God in such circumstances seems naturally to turn attention to the sufferers or to those doing the praying as possible reasons for unanswered prayer. But this does not leave medicine out. No True healer will ever say "stop going to the doctor and let me cure you". Jesus himself endorsed the use of the medical assistance (in his time medicines like oil and wine) when he praises the unknown Good Samaritan for acting as a physician, telling his disciples to go and do the same thing that the Samaritan did in the story.
